Often an ingested object passes easily through the esophagus but is retained either in the stomach or in the small intestine. There are also certain foreign bodies that can get stuck in the esophagus itself. Symptoms that accompany swallowing a foreign body are persistent vomiting, loss of appetite, general weakness, absence of defecation, or a small amount of liquid feces.
